One of my favorite ways to pass the time is to grab a cup of hot tea, pull up a chair next to my window, and watch the world go by. However, my state, like many others, was issued a stay-at-home order last week. And, the world was…quite.
Between feelings of overwhelm, concern, and grief for others, I took a few moments to reflect on where we are and where we will be.
Soon, I’ll be sitting in a vibrant, dimly lit restaurant having a delicious dinner;
Until then, I’ll support that restaurant by ordering from them.Soon, we’ll be laughing with friends in a comedy club;
Until then, we can support the comedians by attending their online shows.Soon, the streets will be bustling again, full of vehicles and endless honking;
Until then, Mother Nature will get a much needed break from our traffic.Soon, we’ll be able to run up to loved ones and embrace them closely;
Until then, we can be grateful for meaningful conversations with them.Soon, we’ll be busy on our way from one place to another and think of someone we’ve been meaning to call;
Until then, we can pick up the phone and immediately reconnect with that person.Soon, many of us will be back at work in our normal environments, busier than ever;
Until then, we can allow ourselves to go inward and experience peace and quiet.Soon, I’ll be in a crowded coffee shop enjoying the collective energy of humans;
Until then, I’ll remind myself that my environment doesn’t dictate my creativity – it is always within me.Soon, we will all have enough toilet paper;
Until then, Kleenex will do.
